There’s No Sound From the Games

If you can’t hear sound from the games, please try these fixes for a computer or iPhone or iPad.

Computer

  • Check the volume on your device or headphones is not low or off.
  • We recommend playing Phonics Hero on Chrome. If you’re using Edge or Firefox, see these instructions to fix audio autoplay settings.

If you’re using Chrome and still have no sound, try each of the following:

  1. Check the Phonics Hero tab is not muted. To do this, right-click the tab and press ‘Unmute site’.
Right-clicking the Phonics Hero tab to unmute it in Chrome

  2. Check your Chrome site settings and ensure sound is set to ‘Allow’. Press the icon to the left of your address bar (this may look like a lock or a settings icon depending on your version of Chrome), then select Site Settings.

  3. Clear your browser cache.

iPad or iPhone

Your device might be in silent mode, which can cause certain sounds (like character voices) not to play, even if the volume is turned up. Try turning off silent mode:

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your device to open the Control Center.
  2. Check if the bell icon is enabled (indicating silent mode is on).
Control Center showing the silent mode bell icon enabled

  3. Tap the bell icon to disable silent mode.
  4. Close and reopen the Phonics Hero app to ensure the change takes effect.
  5. Play a game and check if the sound is now working.
